Yes this is looking at things TOO simple
Color-genes NOT mix as fluids (white ink X black ink = gray ink)
No serious now, color-genetics (and I can speak only about color-genetics) comport differently.
To start with there are only 2 color-pigments (red and black).
The red-pigment can be reinforced by "Mh" (Mahagony which darken the gold), the red-pigment can also be diluted (excist several red diluters).
The black-pigment can be reinforced by "Ml" (Melanotic which darken the black), the black-pigment can be diluted (excist several black diluters).
There is only 1 E-locus where the ground-color is determinated, one with unicolor and four with duocolor (one original "e+" and 4 mutations "E"-"ER"-"eWh"-"eb").
There is the S-locus with gold and Silver where every ground-coloration is based on. (the S-locus is sex-linked).
When interested in more you can read on my webpage :
sites.google.com/site/zijdehoenders/t&dcreating/basics-about-chicken-color-genetics-... where I give my interpretation of the acting and interacting of the color-genes in Moroseta in a common language (but is mostly much simular for other races). If after reading you have questions I will try to answer them with pleasure.
If you have more trust in the complete scientific build out explanation I can recommend you :
www.summagallicana.it/
If this is a little too much "scientific" than look Tünde's page which is very good and complete but not too complicated :
