Cucula/Sparviero : here is a "genetic conflict" : the barring gene removes pigment from the skin, comb, eyes, legs etc ... while trying to produce the required dark pigment, typical for the Silkie, by the use of "Fm & id+"-genes. The barring gene always wins this genetic battle !

Rooster have the male hormone testosterone and this strengthened even more the comb to be red this in contrast to the females ;-)



The B-locus can contain the original "b+" and the mutation "B" expressing in Black- or Cuckoo-phenotype
These Cuckoo-phenotypes, in the cocks can have 2 variants, the light-variant contain B/B
and the dark-variant contain B/b+ . Hens are always dark and contain B/-.

Colour and pattern of cock and hen are equal. Each feather have a dark bluegray or grayblack basecolour with 3 or 4 interrupted diagonally light bluegray not sharply limited drawings. This cucula pattern drawing have to be as evenly possibly divided over the entire body. The fluff colour is light. The transversely links of the hen are a little smaller what gives a darker impression of the colour. In contrast to the other colour layers the skin colour is white. The crest and lells are missing the purple black colour they are dark red. Also the legs and toes are white grayish. The eyes are orange coloured but can have some dark pigment point even so on the bodyskin.
