Yes exact a new born chick can live for 48 hours without food or drink (because just before coming out of the egg it have taken inside the last yellow that give him that 48 hours time).
When a chick not can walk after a few hours it has come out the egg this means something is wrong with it.
Not all natures creatures are "good enough" to go on and to reproduce them selves. Live can be hard !!
