Pied / Mottle => mo (pi)
The pied pattern is recessive, black and white as in Exchequer Leghorn. Research has shown that the pied and mottle patterns are due to the mottle gene. It is no longer accepted that 'pied' is a distinct gene from mottle, however it is not known why the mottle gene causes the pied pattern in some birds and the typical mottle pattern in others. Mottle causes a white tip at the distal end (end farthest from the skin) of the feather. Chicks with extended black and mottle (E/E mo/mo) as in the Exchequer Leghorn will often have black restricted from the belly and sometimes the head.
Erminette => no symbol
Black spots and flecks, variable black and white feathers, similar to pied.
Mottle => mo recessive.
Makes a white tip on end of feather. Changes a black bird to Mottled and a Buff Columbian to a Mille Fleur. Dilutes epidermal melanin. There may be several alleles corresponding to this locus or non-allelic modifying genes.
=> Mo+ Wild-type gene. Dominant. Lack of mottling.
Piumaggio
Pezzato/picchiettato => mo (pi)
Il motivo pezzato è recessivo, bianco e nero come nella Leghorn Exchequer. Alcune ricerche hanno dimostrato che i motivi pezzati e picchiettati sono causati dal gene picchiettato. Ormai non si considera più il gene 'pezzato' come un gene distinto da quello 'picchiettato', in ogni caso non si sa ancora come mai il gene 'picchiettato' si manifesti con un disegno pezzato in alcuni uccelli, e con un disegno picchiettato in altri. Il gene 'picchiettato' provoca la comparsa di un puntino bianco sulla punta di ogni piuma. Pulcini con nero ?esteso? e picchiettatura (E/E ; mo/mo),come nella Leghorn Exchequer, spesso avranno del nero ?limitato? dalla pancia e a volte dalla testa.
Erminette => nessun simbolo
Macchie nere e spruzzature, piume bianche e nere variabili, simile al pezzato.
Picchiettato => mo recessivo.
Causa il puntino bianco sulla punta di ogni piuma. Rende il piumaggio di un uccello nero, picchiettato, e quello di un uccello fulvo columbia, millefiori. Diluisce il colore della pelle. Potrebbero esserci parecchi alleli corrispondenti a questo locus o geni non allelici modificatori.
=> Mo+ Gene tipo selvatico. Dominante. Assenza di picchiettature.
