Mostroseta

This is a cross between a Cochin Black white mottled and a solid Black Moroseta resulting in a
MOSTROSETA (di Sicilia ;-).


Vedi Pepe these both youngsters (male and female) show a few remakable things tell me your opinion please.

haha ... joker. What you really see ?

The strange thing about these 2 was they both were born as "Blue" as you can see the young rooster as a chick on the right.

The one on the left became a complete Black as could be expected.

Here you can see them both as chicks next to the black one :

Here you can see the wingfeathers growing out to "black" !!




This is a documentation what it could be :

Name: Smoky
Symbol: I^S

"The smoky gene is an allele belonging to the dominant white locus. Smoky is dominant to dominant white in both chick down and adult plumage in that extended black with I/I^S (E/E I/I^S)results in grey chick down and adult plumage. Research to date indicates that i+/I^S heterozygotes express more the wild-type phenotype with respect to this gene indicating a recessive character with respect to the wild-type. The melanosomes resulting from the expression of smokey resemble those resulting from Andalusian Blue. Smoky dilutes black much more than red/gold.

A useful note to add would be that smoky is dominant on the chick down of I^S/i+ heterozygotes in that down that should be black is gray".

And to make the mystery complete here you can see the white pearls start to become visible even this is a recessive gene and it is only in single doses (Mo+/mo) which CAN'T be visible along the genetic-rules !!

No piumaggio serico is recessive (h/h) penne lisce is Dominant (H+/H+)
The chicks are H+/h = piumaggio lisce.

h = hookless

ma quindi se tu accoppi questi due avrai figli con piumaggio serico giusto??

25% H/H => piumaggio lisce
50% H+/h => piumaggio lisce (portatore 1 dosis serico)
25% h/h => piumaggio serico

The difficulty is not to become back piumaggio serico but the combination of h/h & mo/mo (reuniting 2 recessive genes) in the same chicks at the same time !
Here the percentage of that particular recombination is only 6,25 %
(+ must be counted with several other factors that may not combine in Id/Id, fm+/fm+ cr+/cr+, mb+/mb+, et+/et+, p+/p+, r+/r+ ... just to mention a few).

Out-crossing a Moroseta is almost sure to become a MOSTROSETA as Pepe always rightly calls them ;-)
BUT when one can succeed after 6 our 7 generations the ugliness will result in total fairness
