The 'barring' pattern is sex-linked, i.e. the males have two chromosomes for barring and the females only one.
Day old chicks have a light patch on the top of the head.
When the barring is combined with brown colouring, the light spot on the head of the females is small and well defined and there is a clearly defined dark stripe down the back.
The stripe down the back of male chicks is much fainter and there is a light patch that covers most of their head.
The down of the male chick is also much paler. [Modificato da Danny_57 09/08/2012 09:50] |

Speaking of "rare" Barred/mutations/autosessabili what you think of these (genotypes) ?

sexual dichromatism (B^Sd Sex linked dilution gene) are they "just" : e+/e+, B/B, mo/mo, S/S for cocks, one dose of B/- and S/- for hens
or are they "rare" : e+/e+, B^Sd/B^Sd, S/S for cocks, one dose of B^Sd/- and S/- for hens
* need two doses to produce the B^Sd/B^Sd whitish phenotype (roosters only) |

Monica are you going for hypothetical ebonies ?
There is still so much to learn about the full genotypes giving exhibition color/patterns (we mainly know the base genes of secondary patterns, not all modifiers).
Can you clarify "Cha/cha" ??

Can you clarify "ebonies"?(ipotetica formula?)
locus sparati a caso? [Modificato da monica.25 09/08/2012 20:24] |

Smyth listed the Charcoal gene with the dominant symbol - Cha/Cha (Smyth, 1994).
(Fred Jeffrey, 1988) used the term “hypothetical ebonies” for unknown eumelanin enhancers.
eb/eb (brown - Glu92Lys, Met71Thr, His215Pro) 3 mutanti amminoacidi of which sharing 2 with E/E
So it's evident that eb/eb plus autosomal recessive eumelanin enhancer can produce solid black male birds, hens are black with gold or Silver lacing
* Smyth's eb/eb Massachusetts recessive black line !

haha, mysterious details ... ok, cumulation of plumage color melanisers (Ml, cha) and no influence by plumage color genes (eb, e+) => with dermal pigment (id+) alone you not can explain these "black" toes, you can maximum come to "slate" toes !!
* Shank color may change from day-old to adult hood. For example, w/w (yellow skin) and id+ (dermal pigment) is not usually expressed in day-old chicks ;-)
So ?? |

This is what I intended with the "slate" (greenish) shank color.
There must be more in the genetic "stake" than you think because with the genetic-codes you gived you can't obtain "black" feet !
(Et) you intend "Ear-tuffs" ?

So!?

You naughty girl, trying to put me on the wrong (black) leg :-)
I imagined yet something Marans-like was going on also.
It's good explainable you became Silver, gold and partially gold.
The colors of Marans are blackcopper, black, white, gold cuckoo, silver cuckoo and cuckoo.
Many subjects contain more genes than they express (because of Dominance) but with breeding them they can reveal themselves.
For the more "strange" cases I will need more photos.
Yes you used the abbreviation (Et) wich means Ear-tufts or did you intend Extra terrestrial ;-) [Modificato da Danny_57 11/08/2012 08:20] |

I give yet some hints ;-)
the gallo is a blackcopper (ER/ER s+/s+ Mh/Mh)
the gallina is a sparviero (ER/ER Ml/Ml s+/- B/-)
