In a more genetic way with word explanations, the interpretation of a genetic-code you can do as follow for example in "millefiori lemone" is : eb/eb s+/s+*s+/- Co/Co mo/mo ig/ig. :
The "hobbyname" should contain the most particular recognition points, it must be logic and in agreement with the concerned genetic-code.
To can call a "design-coloration", for example millefiori, we need to can notice black+red+white at the same time, diluted or not.
- "millefiori lemone" is the authentic millefiori but the red-pigment is diluted with the gene "ig/ig" which is called lemone
The name should refer in the first case to the "design" (here millefiori = mottled = mo/mo) that immediately strike the eye, completed with the "tune" (here lemone = inhibitor of gold = ig/ig) on which the coloration is adapted.
The genetic-code of the "millefiori lemone" is : eb/eb s+/s+*s+/- Co/Co mo/mo ig/ig.
By knowing the basic genetic-rules this code can tell us much.
- "eb/eb" : every chicken have 1 of the possibilities of the E-locus (all start with the letter "e"). This E-gene have different alleles, the original and 4 mutants by which are determinate the ground-colours. In our example it is "eb/eb", since it is not written with a Capital letter it means it is a recessive gene that need is both alleles identical (= homozygote) to be effective. It is not written with a "+" behind so it is not the original gene but a mutation.
- "s+/s+*s+/-" : every ground-colour is based on 1 of the possibilities of the S-locus (all start with the letter "s"). This S-gene is sex-linked, this means a cock have always 2 alleles s+/s+ = gold, identical (= homozygote) (is written with a "+" behind = the original gene), he can also be S/S = Silver, identical (= homozygote) he can also be S/s+ = Golden, not identical (= heterozygote) (S = Silver is written with a capital letter this means it is Dominant over is original s+ = gold). Hens have only 1 allel s+/- = gold (= hemizygote), or she can be S/- = Silver. A hen is always pure for a sex-linked coloration-gene.
- "Co/Co" : this Dominant gene give the "restriction" it is called "Columbia" a pigment-restrictor.
- "mo/mo" : this recessive gene give the "design" it is called "mottled" it act first as blocker of all pigment production after it product black-pigment and finally it product red-pigment.
- "ig/ig" : this is recessive gene give the "tune" it is called "inhibitor of gold" or more popular "lemon" a dilutor of red-pigment.
